EYFS

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a framework which was launched on 13 March 2007 and came into force in September 2008. It is the new regulatory and quality framework for the provision of learning, development and care for children between birth and the academic year in which they turn five (0-5).

EYFS is a comprehensive statutory framework, introduced in 2007 by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF). All registered early years providers will be required to use it from September 2008. It sets standards for development, learning and care of children from birth to five, replacing earlier frameworks such as Curriculum Guidance for the Foundation Stage, Birth to Three Matters and National Standards for the under 8s Day care and Childminding.

*    A unique child
Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and
self-assured.

    * Positive relationships
Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.

    * Enabling environments
The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.

    * Learning and development
Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.
