Chatburn Pre-school and Out of School Club has been registered since 1992. It is privately owned and is registered to provide full day care for children aged between 2 and 7 years. The setting opens from 08.30 until 18.00. The facilities provided include out of school care and pre-school provision. There are 85 children on roll, 23 are in receipt of nursery education funding. The setting supports children with identified special needs. There are no children with English as an additional language in attendance. All children attending the out of school club attend the Chatburn Church of England primary school. A number of children using the out of school facility are over the age of 8 years. Our aim as a private day nursery is to provide your child, regardless of race, gender or ability, with a cheerful, clean and most importantly caring environment where they can play and learn whilst having fun. The Nursery School is educationally based, preparing children for Key Stage 1 of the National curriculum. The nursery school stresses learning through play and the children have access to a wide variety of equipment. Children often attend the baby unit and progress through nursery into Junior School.

This is a craft and messyplay class with a difference. All children love to messyplay but not all adults want children to messyplay at home, and who can blame them. This is where we come in!!! Messyplay has many benefits to children’s cognitive and creative development. At home we are always saying “Don’t make a mess” but at JittaBugs we are saying “Let’s get Messy”. It is a wonderful way for children to learn, explore and develop using all of their sences. At Messybugs we sing our JittaBugs Hello song and then begin with a message from Mr JittaBug , Mr JittaBugs explains that he would like to tell a story but in order for the story to come alive he needs the children to make some things for him. This is where the organized craft come in, each week we make, paint, colour, build something different with the help of mummy/daddy/carer of course. Whilst waiting for our items to dry we can then explore with messyplay with aprons supplied. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JITTABUGS NEWS Jittabugs will be adding a new section to this website, the new section will be a dance/fitness page offering classes in Dance, Zumba, Aerobics and Pole . Watch this space!!!! The sound of singing: mother’s music. Each baby is attuned the sound of his mother’s voice from the earliest time in the womb. He already moves in synch with her voice even before he is born. So, whatever you think, your baby loves the sound of your voice. To him, it is music to his ears. It is the most wonderful sound he can hear. Singing is known to be most beneficial to the growing child, helping to make connections and furthering brain development. Nursery rhymes are an ideal medium for the infant. ‘Rock a bye baby’, so well known and loved, is an ancient favourite, serving as a lovely melody and rocking song, ensuring that the baby is enveloped in the arms and thus contained and soothed at the same time. From this containment the baby begins to be able to soothe and regulate himself. The Nursery Rhyme, with its repetition and rhythm helps to establish clear, healthy breathing and circulation, and strengthens the immune system. The movement possibilities within the rhyme ensure that the child and adult share in an enjoyable experience. From tip to toe he is gently “massaged” by the hands and the words he hears. The words of the rhymes themselves take a back seat to the rhythm. In some, the strong beat comes first, as in ‘Bye baby Bunting’ or ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’ in others it comes on the second, as in ‘My Bonnie lies Over The Ocean’. Many Nursery Rhymes consist of the long / short rhythm, which, spoken or sung in a flowing, non- syllabic way, is so enjoyable. The singing of songs or rhymes is the very beginning of language and speech. How closely the infant watches the singers’ face and lips. How hard he tries to imitate and move his lips too. He is wholly engaged with mum or dad, drinking in the experience. We automatically move our voice up a level when we speak or sing the rhymes, thus ensuring that we fully engage the infant. He loves the repetition and never gets tired of listening to us. So! Sing on. It is food and medicine. A lullaby at bedtime, sung slowly, has the power to calm a fretful infant or child, and help them to settle and enter the realm of sleep. By Carol Mannion
